 Grand_Slam_Team_Picture-1WordSpace and Dallas Poetry Slam are honored to present Dallas Poetry Slam Youth Series Team, the competition winners representing Dallas at Brave New Voice for 2013: Kellen Weigand, Eliza Schreibman (the Grand Slam Champion), Lizzie Vamos, Josh Rambeau, Blake Lackey, and Amanda Jackson.

Throughout the year, Alexandra Marie and Joaquin Zihuatanejo offer free writing and performance workshops at Half Price Books, 1st Saturdays of every month, a partnership of Dallas Poetry Slam and WordSpace’s Next Generation Project.

Come and support these amazing writers and high school performers. Alexandra Marie will be on hand to present the Team and accept any donations to get the team to their Brave New Voices national competition destination, coming up in August.

    Scheduled Events:
    Coffee, Cigarettes and a Newspaper – Local journalists will choose an article from a variety of newspapers and read aloud as we enjoy coffee from Liz Goulding’s roving coffee shop featuring Oak Cliff Coffee Roasters. Liz will provide a coffee recipe book with instructions on how to make a perfect cup of coffee.
    BlackOUT///CutUP Poems – Cut and paste found words gleaned from the newspaper, books and other printed media to create poems with The Wild Detectives, a soon to be book store on 8th Street. Poets from Spain and New York will Skype in and present readings as we work.
    Intuitive Calligraphy – Artist Andrea Estrada will gaze into your soul and gift you with a word handwritten in her fine script.
    Flash Book with Evan Cleveland – Make a small book super fast.
    Silent Song – Jennifer McNabb from Resolana will share artwork and writing projects made with women incarcerated at the Dallas County Jail.
    Ex Libris – This is a special demonstration for all of you bibliophiles, book worms, and closet librarians. Artist Kyle Hobratschk will lead you through the making of a bookplate etched into a copper plate on his beautiful press.
    PRINT::PROOF – Pull a screen printed READ-RITE poster with Ryan and Rachel Rushing.

    Book Dissection with Candice McKay – Learn the anatomy of a book with book restorer and owner of the Book Doctor. Book cadavers and scalpels will be provided.

    The Writer’s Garret Reading
    Deconstruct Reconstruct – Make a book from the pages of a discarded books.
    Robin Myrick/The Town Crier
    5-6pm The Wild Detectives are cooking and serving a FREE Paella dinner
