ArtSpeak @ Mighty Fine Arts
Wordspace presents the last Artspeak of 2016 with a rare blues set featuring Andy Don Emmons accompanied by Mark Martinek. Fairfield Texas native Andy Don channels the spirit of Blind Lemon Jefferson and gets low down and greasy while moaning the eternal universals of existence, Drinkin’, Sex, Money, Art and Death! And if there ever was a year that inspired the blues you couldn’t pick a better one than 2016!
Mighty Fine Arts presents “Teasarama” featuring new work by Leah Hairston. This show opens on Saturday Dec. 17 with a reception for the artist from 6-9pm and will run till Sun. Jan. 22.
Leah Hairston’s burlesque queens and pin-up divas romp seductively amongst cartoon personalities who are seemingly oblivious to the possibilities. Tossing sex bombs into innocuous animation fantasies seems a little corrupt but Leah steeps her images in high humor with slight digs into male posturing. These ladies are unrepentantly provocative but immune from transgression because maybe they’re intoxicating muses bent on inspiration and imagination. Leah masterfully describes fine lines of intent throughout her pictures, thoughtful demarcations that give pause and a bit of a bite. But she doesn’t allow any of that to detract from making her work big enough fun and still be legal. So come on out and get teased and tantalized and tempted cause we all know everybody likes it more naughty than nice!
